Area's

Camden Town/ Wood Green

In this research  I find so many connection from all different concepts, they are  totally different but got the same meaning inside which is human, identities, looks and things that will help you to change your identity.

I was going around Camden town and wood green to take some photos relating to my subculture, I have find quite interesting object that connects to my theme and giving out interesting messages, on the first image as you can see there is three different character from celebrities, each t-shirts has different person but mainly half naked, i didn’t know what was the exact message but I really like the idea. Specially the Lil- Wayne one eyes mouth are closed and two fingers pointed on his forehead like holding a gun. All I understand from this image are 3 monkey “see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil it might be not the right meaning but looks similar.

While I was looking through shops and bars I couldn’t really found what I was looking for  and wasn’t sure where to start from but when I went out to start my journey I decided to look for the object that will help you to change your identity, things like make up, wigs, hats and clothing. I was thinking about plastic surgeons or things like that but I was not sure, so I though I should look at something that could be changed quickly and not permanent therefore my interests was on something that keep changing.

On my journey the most favourite one I liked was the old time photo studio, I was in Camden town and passing through the crowd and saw this open door where people in different costumes and a man where positioning them to take photo's. I was trying to capture some photos but a man jumped out and warned me to not take any photos and given me a leaflet to go in, I have not but I watch it from outside. The costumes where looking so real also doing they was a makeup artist which does the makeup’s and getting people ready, it looked exact from the same olden era's.
As far as I know, there are four concepts and they are Tudor, Victorian, Gangster and Wild West.  The studio where decorated really well each corner off the studio relates to the concept, lot of objects going was used with county flags.

My second favourite one was in Camden town again it was a massive retail shop, there was led material tops, underwear’s and clothing the shop was quite dark and there was high volume of disco music’s with man and woman dancers, was interesting!! The most eye catchy bit was metallic display models, again the images was not aloud but could able to capture some, the first  one was covered with all sort of clothing with lightening glasses, umbrellas and rainbow top. There was also lighted woman and man sculptures in metal but they remind me of characters in avatar movie. The reason I have the image of sculpture because there look like a human body but cant recognised the identity but visually really effective and I felt like I was in exhibition rather than a retail shop.

In Wood Green, I mostly looked at accessories and clothing, little market malls and captured anything that   was relative.  Wood Green is a small place so they were not much interesting areas or shop like in Camden town although I get to find some images. I also did not have much time to look through other places but had fun during my research, specially trying to take pictures and getting court all the time. There are people who were questioning me, why I wanted to take photos.

This image from camden town in market hall.

These images from Camden my second favourite one, is was really crowded in there and really interesting atmosphere, the sales assistance where punk which was different to usual retailers. I chosen this image because really like the colourful make up on the stands long eye lashes.

Really interesting!!

The old Time Studio- one of my favourites, I enjoyed watching it, which I wanted to go in but didn’t want to spent much time in there other wise I wouldn’t be able to do my research. Maybe for another time!!

This image from Wood Green in Pak's, there where so many wigs different styles of hairs and extension but the most one I liked was the colourful one, it caught my eye and took some picture of wigs. I believe that wigs or hair does make a lot of change on a person even it effect a person character and personality! Especially women’s prefers to go hairdressers when they in stress and I do it too!

Interview

I had a face to face interview with my friend Anna Betlinska and written down all the point that I wanted know by her feelings, before I had this interview we had a short photo shooting sessions with her and dressed her up in different aspects of clothing. We discovered out how a person could change by just changing hair colour or clothing. The main purpose of this shooting and the interview was to show the difference of identities. It was quite exciting for both of us, so we tried our best to come out with something good, when the shooting ended we set down and I talked about before and after the shooting and her feelings.

Interview with Anna Betlinska

Me-Hello Anna
Anna-Hi, (smilling)
Me- Today I will be asking some questions about your feelings, is that ok for you?
Anna- Yes i am ready!
Me-Have you ever modelled before?
Anna- No its my first time and i was bit nervous.
Me- How does it feel when you dressed as someone else?
Anna- I was excited at the beginning but then realised how different I look than usual and suprised.
Me- so what was your first impression when you saw yourself in the mirror?
Anna-when I saw myself in the mirror I got shock because I have not expected to look that different, during the photo shooting there was times that I felt like I was some else.
Me- Like who? Can you give an example?
Anna- well not specific person but the one with ping wig just remind me of 60’s woman artists or part from an old movie.
Me- Will you ever do the same thing on a casual day example to go out to work?
Anna- I will not go out dressed up like that, unless for special occasion to celebrate like Halloween or costume party.
Me- If no, can you explain me why?
Anna- I will not because I like to be natural and simple, it feels more comfortable and real and its not me.
Me- When your parents seen your photo’s did they recognized you?
Anna- My parent didn’t recognized me even some of my friends too. I have not told them who it was, once they learnt it out they were surprised.
Me- what was they face impression?
Anna- My mum got shock and she really like it because I look different, she actually told me how I looked professional.
Me- Did you like yourself in a different look and dressed up as some else?
Anna- Yes I liked myself with different looks, seeing myself with a pink wig was interesting because that was something new for me and was exciting.
Me- Which one was your best photo.?
Anna - My best photographs was when im looking into the mirror with the pink hair and I was putting on the pink lipstick.
Me-8)In which look did you had most fun?
Anna- I had the mostly fun with the pink hair session because I feel beautiful ( laugh).
Me- Do you think your identity is hidden?
Anna- Yes, I think my identity has hidden because no one has recognized me, whenever I was showing my images to others.
Me- If yes, can you explain me how? And the feeling?
Anna- It was hidden because the makeup was really strong which has covered my eyes and the whole make up was different and fascinated.

Here is end of our interview, me-thank you so much for your time and sharing your feelings, is there anything else you wanted to say? “Yes, I am happy to make this interview with you, it was something different for me and I hope it helps you”!
I also made a short interview with my friend Hayam Amin from my previous research, which was for my subculture theme and it was about religion women and why they were covered and feelings about hidden identities.

Spring 2009 Collection

I  have seen this collection ages ago for my college project, while i was looking at london fashion week, I reconised the similarity with Bora Aksu's collection for Autum/Winter 2013, where i literally uploded on my blogspot. Specially they are bits and pieces such as the lightness of the meterial, the round parts and the way its been placed over the top looks like from one collection however they are two different designers collections in different years.

London Fashion Week

Bora Aksu is a fashion desiginer, who graduated his MA from central saint martins, been in uk for 15 years and  he is from Turkey. His collections are in london and across the world such as selfriges, Wolf & Badger and Liberty & Co. I literally reconised him from London Fashion Week Website but as far as i seen his collection i find it interesting, specially in Autum/Winter 2013 Collection. I have uploaded my favroute one from his collection.

Spring/summer 2008 Runway

This runway collection was impressive it also had a mixture of different ideas and concepts brought together. While I was watching the catwalk show, I find it a bit simple start but as the show continued, it became more interesting and initially influenced with the concept.

The beginning started with a suit collection, they have designed classy and feminine garments I really like the silhouette of the garment, it was completely grey suited with a thick red waistband wrapped around the waist, which points out the fitted and figure hugging shapes.
The blazers designed as sharp and smart looking, it reminds me of a masculine business wear and it also has designed with different materials, such as shinny and mate fabrics, I personally think that the colour scheme was quite dark for the spring/summer collection,
It looked like a winter collection although the whole movement of the show was the combination with the headpieces, which designed by Philip Treacy.

The hat ideas where futuristic and visually pleasing appearance, the ideas where great but the most favourite ones that I am in love with is the butterfly and the metal designed one, where I uploaded them on my blog. I find it quite interesting because it has nicely detailed the butterflies placed really well, the colours are beautiful, and it looks realistic. The other design it give me the idea off Chinese culture, it made from metal, the details based on flowers , it’s quite heavy to wear, but looks stunning with the garment together. The whole outfit is looking perfect, I also was interested with both of these because it connects to my previous research from other designers.

The show becomes more interesting because the silhouette changes into more futuristic shapes of garment, such as the three-dimension example, high shoulders, round skirt,  butterfly design over the shoulders and diamond shapes used. It becomes mostly dresses than suit, again the colours and fabrics becomes wintery, its black and gold sequence fabrics but effective. The other changes was the summary concept where the light fabrics such as chiffon, silk and silky satin fabrics. The prints are bright rainbow colours with different butterfly designs and fitted silhouette changed to draped dresses.

Designers Alexandra McQueen, grey sleevless knee lenght dress with a red thick waist band, the head pieace made by Philip Traecy, butterflies, love the idea and its really impressive.

Designer Alexandra McQueen, My second pieces im in love with, great idea, the head piece from Philip Traecy.
